We often think of Alicante as a sun-and-beach destination<\/strong>, and the first thing that comes to our minds is either Benidorm<\/strong> or Torrevieja<\/strong> with their crowded beaches. However, we don’t realize everything Costa Blanca<\/strong> has to offer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Considering that the Costa Blanca<\/strong> has one of the best climates in the world<\/strong>, with more than 325 days of sunshine a year<\/strong> and moderate temperatures<\/strong>, and the province’s topography\u2014high-quality beaches<\/strong> and a wide variety of mountains<\/strong>\u2014, no wonder that numerous tourists, athletes, and even professional teams choose the Costa Blanca for their training and activities<\/strong>, or even to live there.<\/p>\n

Due to the varied terrain of the province, Costa Blanca<\/strong> offers many cycling routes<\/strong>: road<\/strong> cycling routes, mountain<\/strong> passes, and mountain biking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The inland and northern part of the province has the most mountainous areas and is where the mountain passes<\/strong> are located, five of which have been staged in the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among these passes, the Alto de Aitana<\/strong> stands out. It starts in the municipality of Sella and runs along the CV770 highway, covering 17.6 km, with an average gradient of 5.7% and a maximum gradient of 9.5%. The base altitude of this mountain pass<\/strong> is 339 meters, and the summit altitude is 1,549 meters. It is a must-visit for cycling enthusiasts of a certain level, as it has been chosen on several occasions as a special category pass<\/strong> in the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a. And with good reason, the Aitana Mountain<\/strong>, at 1,558 meters, is considered the highest point in Alicante.<\/p>\n

Another notable mountain pass is Xorret de Cat\u00ed<\/strong>, which starts in the town of Castalla<\/strong> and runs along the CV870 highway. With a length of just 4 km, it is a category 1 mountain pass<\/strong> with an average gradient of 11.5% and a maximum gradient of 22%.<\/p>\n

It also has category 2 mountain passes<\/strong> such as Coll de Rates<\/strong>, La Carrasqueta<\/strong>, and Port de Tudons<\/strong>. From all these mountain passes, in addition to exercising your body, you can contemplate wonderful landscapes that will leave you speechless.<\/p>\n

In addition to the mountain passes, the Costa Blanca offers countless road cycling routes<\/strong>, ranging from flat terrain to more challenging climbs and less-trafficked roads. All of these routes can be downloaded from Wikiloc<\/a><\/strong> to make your journey easier.<\/p>\n

It\u00b4s worth to highlight some of these routes through the north of the province, routes developed by the Costa Blanca Provincial Tourism Board<\/strong>. Two routes pass through D\u00e9nia<\/strong> and the valleys. These two routes allow us to discover towns such as El Verger<\/strong>, Pego<\/strong>, La Vall d’Ebro, Ondara, <\/strong>Benidoleig, Orba, Castell de Castells, and Sagra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Two routes start in Calpe<\/strong>, known for the Pe\u00f1on de Ifach<\/strong>, and run through Teulada, Moraira<\/strong>, J\u00e1vea, D\u00e9nia, Jal\u00f3n, Benissa<\/strong>, and the Sierra de Bernia.<\/p>\n

One of the routes starting in Benidorm<\/strong> offers a visit to one of the most charming inland towns in the province, Guadalest<\/strong>, which is a must-see<\/strong>. These two routes also pass through Finestrat<\/strong>, Sella, Polop, Altea<\/strong>, Gata de Gorgos, T\u00e1rbena, Callosa d’en Sarri\u00e0, and l’Alf\u00e0s del P\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Going a little further down, we have two other routes located in Alicante<\/strong> and its surroundings. Both routes depart from Alicante, and along the way you can visit the towns of El Campello, Busot, Xixona<\/strong>, Tibi, Castalla, San Vicente del Raspeig<\/strong>, Boqueres and Agost<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Although the Costa Blanca’s temperature is moderate year-round<\/strong>, it’s best to avoid the hottest months, such as July and August, or at least limit physical activity during the hottest hours of the day.<\/p>\n

In the south of the province<\/strong>, we find numerous cycling tours<\/strong>, as it is flatter. These routes start from both Torrevieja<\/strong> and Guardamar del Segura<\/strong>, and allow us to enjoy flat roads<\/strong>, which are more accessible than mountain roads for cycling. If you want to enjoy the scenery<\/strong> while pedaling, but without the effort required on mountain routes, these routes are perfect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On these routes, we can discover every corner of this small paradise<\/strong> by pedaling, such as the Guardamar Dunes<\/strong>, the Pink Lagoon of Torrevieja<\/strong>, the salt flats of Santa Pola<\/strong>, the beaches of Guardamar del Segura<\/strong> and Orihuela Costa<\/strong>, the Vega Baja orchards<\/strong>, and much more.<\/p>\n
